throughout the episode daedelus is stuck in a flashback of this memory on the farm.

the three phoenix solders enter "the maw" of war. an area where gun smoke and fire makes daylight into darkness. and the only thing you see is blinding flashes of light. here a candelabra built in to the back of the armor of a flag bearer assists the phoenix troops with light so they can wade into "the maw" of war. and you cant hear anything because you will lose your hearing. "so whatever you said, i didn"t copy. were in the maw!"

the dream was written down and recorded and copyrighted almost 20 years ago.
this was not a normal day for orion. a routine scout. but when he touched the two exposed power nodes on the destroyed lightning tanks his vision went blue and he saw this. the entity came down and said its name was apollo carpenter and that orion has in his possession a dagger with the blood of his son. the being stabs orion in the heart with his hand.
meanwhile in the physical plane, orion is covered in the melted gold and is electrocuting all the ash nearby. they do not see what orion sees and orion doesn't see what they see.
orion never could speak again after this day. he made it home safe to the moon but his skin was melted and he was never the same. but he made sure to have the blood on the dagger of him cloned and made max to be josephs little brother and be raised by daedelus.
of course in the phoenix empire the wrench of power and daedelus' book of all knowledge that orion found is all kept secret by the pheonix empire. along with the true identity of max. "its HIM".
the other 2 phoenix soldiers with orion know the truth and time will tell what happens as the youth of the phoenix empire are raised in the fake copy of Yosemite national park under a dome on the moon. this is where the young ithyas and max fight and where daedelus teaches his lessons and allegories from Plato and Socrates and so forth and answers questions like "what are freeways".
unlike the ash army underground in the earth the phoenix empire has kept all main ethnic bloodlines un-mixed by having feudal factions like the knights of the round table or the 12 tribes. much like prison, each race has there leader and peace and order are established through the blood sport of the arena of Ares. they took some dirt from mars to cover the floor and the pheonix empire built a fake copy of the coliseum and put a dome on it on the moon. and there all beef is settled. and if you die well and honor Ares then you will still bring honor to your family.
but this new incident of the golden warrior causes murmurings and stirrings and threatens the kings control of his perfectly warped little world. slowly they figure out the king has been deceiving them and some conspire to take the throne of the phoenix empire for themselves
